February 2007

WORLD PREMIERE

The Shank-Hagedorn Duo gave "W Is For Weasel," a suite for violin and guitar, it's world premiere on February 19th at the University of Wisconsin at River Falls. The piece was also performed at Hamline University the next day. I attended both events. The Vox Novus 60x60 (2006) International Mix which includes my piece "Amerika Ist Nun Erwacht" was presented in The Merrill Ellis Intermedia Theater at the University of North Texas Denton, TX.

NEW PIECE PREMIERE

The Mask Of Sanity, a new electronic piece, had it's world premiere at the Electric Island Concert at Bainbridge Island, WA on November 12. The piece was later performed at the Bellingham Electronic Arts Festival (BEAF) on December 2.


February 2006

GRANT

I recently received a grant from The Puffin Foundation, an organization which strives to "continue the dialogue between art and the lives of ordinary people." The grant was awarded for the composition of This Is The Garden, a new choral setting of a poem by e. e. cummings for the Annas Bay Music Festival to be held at Union, Washington during the summer of 2006.

January 2006

PERFORMANCE
My electronic pieces Be So Sweet (2001) and Apocalypse Cow (2003) will recieve premiere performances at Spring in Havana, the 11th annual International Festival of Electroacoustic Music international electronic music festival to be held in Havana, Cuba in March 2006.

PUBLICATION
Four Pieces For Classical Guitar (1997) is scheduled for early 2006 publication by Les Éditions Doberman-Yppan.

November 2005

PERFORMANCE
PASSIONATE ISOLATION, a 3-movement suite for guitar and mandolin, which won 1st Prize in the 2004 Composition Contest sponsored by the Classical Mandolin Society of America, will be performed in Boston's Jordan Hall on November 6, 2005 by mandolinist Marilynn Mair and guitarist Robert Paul Sullivan.

September 2005

COMMISSION
Guitarist Cem Duruoz has commissioned me to compose a concerto for solo guitar and orchestra. The piece will use themes and forms of Turkish music and will be called CONCERTO ANATOLIA. Stay tuned for further details and sound samples.

WORLD PREMIERE!

My OSTRAKA, settings for voice and guitar of 18 fragments from the poetry of 7th and 6th century BC Greece (Sappho would probably be the most recognizable aithor) will receive its World Premiere at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival on September 17th. Performers will be Sharon Rhinesmith, mezzo-soprano and Thomas Smith, guitar.

COMMISSION
The Annas Bay Music Festival in Union, WA has commissioned me to compose a new piece for SATB choir and instruments. The piece, a 10-minute pastoral cantata, will have its World Premiere at the Festival in the summer of 2006 with a professional choir conducted by Gary D. Canon. Also to be performed is my choral piece De Omnibus Apostolis.
