Concert Imaginaire

Concert Imaginaire is a unique experimental music ensemble that pushes the boundaries of musical form and content, drawing listeners into a musical world that is as much psychological as it is visceral

Concert Imaginaire is a five-piece ensemble:
voice/bass, violin, keyboards, guitar, percussion.

2012

2011
  • COMPOSITION   THE MASSACRE OF SUNS  A setting of an Emily Dickinson poem for voice,         synthesizer, & percussion. Performed by Concert Imaginaire.
  • COMPOSITION   APOCALYPSE COW the video to which follows the single released by Fin Records. CHERNOBYL is the other piece on the single.

  • PUBLICATION    My concerto for solo guitar and orchestra, Concerto Anatolia, based on themes from Turkish music, has been accepted for publication by Clear Note Publications
  • PUBLICATION    My 4-movement piece for violin and guitar, W IS FOR WEASEL has been published by Clear Note Publications
  • PERFORMANCE / NEW COMPOSITIONS    A concert of my music called "What Is The Word" took place on April 23, 2010 in Seattle.  The event was sponsored in part by the Mayor of Seattle’s Office of the Arts and Cultural Affairs and Vox Novus, a composer collective. The concert featured works for choir, electronics, chamber music, and solo guitar. The concert featured a number of premieres, including:  
  • PREMIERES   What Is The Word - a 7-part madrigal setting the poetry of Samuel Beckett for 16-voice choir, Songs From Ariel - settings of 3 poems by Sylvia Plath for women’s voices, Tautologies - for flute and electronics, and Journey to Love - for solo guitar.
  • SOUND DESIGN   I designed the sound for the Seattle Publc Theatre’s production of  Dying City
  • PUBLICATION    My 4-movement piece for violin and guitar, W IS FOR WEASEL has been published by Clear Note Publications.

2009
  • PERFORMANCE / NEW MUSIC    I composed Virus Cosmos: Introduction for 8 concentric loudspeakers performed at the Pieces of Eight Festival in Burien, WA (8/15-16). The piece is part of an multi-movement oratorio for voices, electronic sounds, organ, trumpet, and percussion.
  • SOUNDTRACK    I composed the soundtrack for the film, To Serve Mann. The 9-minute short, a comedy about a process server who has difficulty delivering papers to a self-employed torturer, was made in less than one week as part of the Seattle Truly Independent Film Festival (STIFF)
  • NEW COMPOSITION    I have composed and recorded Impressions #1-4 for multiple electric guitars. The piece was initially conceived as music for the soundtrack for videos about the Seattle-based Loki Fish Company
  • PERFORMANCE    Mandolinist Buzz Gravelle and guitarist Peter Yates presented three performances of my Passionate Isolation at UCLA and Pomona College in California
  • SOUNDTRACK    I composed the soundtrack for Nils Osmar's film Gun Day. The 7-minute short, a satirical talent contest about the "New America" where everyone celebrates the gun, was made for the 48-Hour Film Challenge. The film premiered at Seattle's Harvard Exit Theater (6/23).
  • GRANT    I have received a CityArtist Project Award from the City of Seattle Mayor's Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs. The Award, which carries a cash prize, will be used to compose a new work for choir setting poems by Samuel Beckett
  • PERFORMANCE    60 x 60 comes to Seattle!! Robert Voisey's Vox Novus concert series played to a packed hall at Seattle's Good Shepherd Center (the city's premiere place for new music). I served as MC for the concert which featured 60 minute-long compositions by 60 different composers including my own Big Donut

2008
  • PUBLICATION    My concerto for solo guitar and orchestra, Concerto Anatolia, based on themes from Turkish music, has been accepted for publication by Clear Note Publications.
  • PERFORMANCE    My Christmas carol Tirlee! Tirlo! was performed by the Vashon Island Chorale conducted by Gary Canon
  • PUBLICATION    The Christmas carol Tirlee! Tirlo! and the sacred Latin work De omnibus apostolis for choir are now available at Yelton Rhodes Music.
  • PUBLICATION    MBIRA for percussion sextet is now available at C. Alan Publications
  • BIG DONUT    The audio tantrum Big Donut, with video by Tin Ilakovac, is now available on Vimeo. This joins an earlier submission called Shore Morning (Ectoplasmic) with video by Victor Ingrassia
  • WORLD PREMIERE!    Big Donut has its world premiere at Vox Novus' 60x60 concert at Mills College, Oakland, CA.
  • CD RELEASE    The latest Vox Novus CD containing my Amerika Ist Nun Erwacht! has just been released
  • PEMIERE    Concerto Anatolia for solo guitar and orchestra had its world premiere performance by the Antalya State Orchestra in Antalya, Turkey on January 19, 2008. Cem Duruöz, who also performed the North American premiere at the Texas Round Top International Guitar Festival on February 16th, played the solo guitar. Audience members at the premiere “exclaimed how they were wowed” by the premiere of the piece (American Record Guide).
  • GRANT    I have received an award from the American Music Center's Composer Assistance Program to prepare the score of my Concerto Anatolia. 
  • MUSICAL    I continue to work on the musical comedy The Incomparable Dieter by Canadian playwright Barry Healey. The play, set in post-war Europe, is a farce about the shenanigans of a duo of failed buskers.
  • CD RELEASE    My CD entitled Your TIme Is Up is now available.  The CD is a collection of my electric guitar music. It joins my Giraffes! at CD Baby
